Considering the fact that Winchester NEVER cataloged a heavy duck with a vent rib here’s your chance to own one!

Pretty sure I’d be the only kid on the block lucky enough to have one. Somebody put a lot of work into this one.

I am curious to know where your information that Winchester never cataloged the ‘Heavy Duck’ with the vent rib came from?

According to the information in the Riffle book on page 158 the catalog #G1262SV is for the vent rib model.

I have serial #1626627 and it has the same configuration as the one offered in the auction.

If I have been duped I would like to know before I make the mistake of bragging on my Model 12 Duck Guns.

This now makes me suspicious of serial #1545532 which is a solid ribbed Heavy Duck with checked stocks, listed on page 151 of the same book.

Your help will be appreciated.

Roger,

My info came from Maddis, “the Winchester model 12” It’s been a few years since I read it and my memory was not spot on. Quoted from page 59:

Catalogs usually informed the customer that the model 12 28 gauges and duck guns will be furnished with plain or matted rib barrels only. Vent ribs cannot be furnished. While this has led some researchers to say that duck guns and 28 gauge guns were not made with vent ribs, The fact is a few 28’s and duck guns were provided with these ribs.

I apologize for making you swallow hard…………I will make it a habit of confirming my info before I post rather than relying on memory! I truly hope your heavy duck is the real deal and not a fabricated one.

Thanks Erin for the response and accurate location of your information.

I personally have acquired several questionable and a few down-right bogus Winchesters.

So I am always looking to finding more information that may prove or disprove my previous ‘knowledge’!

I am still teachable and it helps if I get correct information the first time.

Regards,
