I have a 1897 Winchester that’s in need of a new firing pin lock spring. It’s the old style flat spring type. Any ideas on where a guy could locate one? I might need the lock itself as well as the ones I’ve seen a picture of have a dimple that keeps pressure outward on the spring. I need to look at mine again. I don’t recall seeing that dimple protruding out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Already tried the usual parts sites.

I just double checked. No dimple on mine. I see no signs of there ever being one. Looks like I could get away with just a new spring.

I would contact your local SASS (Cowboy Action Shooters) organization and ask them.  They ordinarily have a gunsmith or two that can work on a Model 1897 and may have parts on hand.

Located a guy in IL that specializes in old Winchesters. I’m sending him my lock so he can make a new spring, install, and stake it into place. Just thought I’d share in case someone else finds themselves in the same predicament. Shoot me a message for the guy’s name/number.
