I’m in the process of convincing myself to put money down on a very decent condition Model 1897 12ga TD that still has its original barrel etc.

I was wondering is one able to swap barrels on a TD version? or is the barrel dedicated to the breach?

I was thinking about having a short barrel on it for cowboy like shooting. While retaining the 30" for fair weather pheasant or quail hunting.

Mark,

If you have a second barrel assembly, it can be installed on the gun. It may need some minor adjustment, but barrel assmeblies can be readily swapped from one gun to another.

Thanks Bert. Looks like I am going to call the shop owner tomorrow and get it on layaway. My son who’s been gripping he can’t think of anything to get me for Christmas is going to kick his gift money into the pile. Now to get to work selling off some of the camera, model airplane, vintage stereo gear, misc. I have piled up around here so I can get it paid off ASAP.

I’ll show photos when its mine.

Is this also applicable to the Model 12s??? And is it a barrel swap that can be made with just a twist of the hand & no tools required?? Thanks, Bill

Over the years I have seen several miss matched 97s with different numbers from the receiver and the numbers on the takedown ring. Most were in bad shape with a few in good condition.
