Pretty hard to beat the feeling of taking a nice Whitetail with a classic vintage Winchester. The 38-55 is one of my favorite cartridges for nostalgic reasons. I took a Whitetail some years ago with Winchester 1894 received in the warehouse in December 1899. What a feeling!

It was an awesome feeling, especially after having used an in-line muzzleloader the last 10-12 yrs. Maybe I’ll work with my 1880,s 1876 45-60. It sports a 30in barrel. Paul

I’ve hunted with an original ’76 chambered in 45-60 but that season did not see a deer. With your 30″ barrel, you will have an excellent sight radius! I used to reload for the 45-60 but unfortunately sold all my dies and brass.

Curious how you made your carbine into a single shot? I used my Crazy Horse Rifle in 38-55, took a wooden dowel in the mag tube to make it single shot legal. Unfortunately saw nothing but a squirrel and a few ducks.
