“Cheaper than Dirt” sent me an e-mail announcing they had ammunition in stock.  I found this: a box (100) of plain Winchester .22’s for $80:

https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/winchester-super-x-super-speed-.22lr-ammunition-40-grain-copper-plated-lrn-100-rounds-1300-fps/FC-AMM-088.html

I was going to call them and ask, “just how is this cheaper than dirt?”  Then I thought, I haven’t priced dirt in a while, so I could end up looking out of touch.

Just don’t accuse them of profiteering!  Merely good capitalism.

Clarence – until I have a better handle on the current price of dirt, I’m going to hold off on all accusations! Wink

Steve,

I can get more than 2-yards of good organic topsoil for less money!  I think that you should call them and demand that they change their name & slogan!

I haven’t figured it out in Sq. yards but it cost my gun club 25 grand to add 3 feet to 3 pistol bay burms. Sounded pretty expensive to me but I understand that was the low bid. Maybe dirt is a little higher now, its like every thing else, if you have it and no one else does, you get to name your price. All boils down to how fast and how much money uncle sam’s printing press turns out I guess.

Price gouging is one thing, just wait and see what’s to come when the anti-gunners start adding federal taxes to gun, ammunition and “accessories” for guns. Current prices for a box of .22’s might not look so bad then.

(Got to get off this soap box.)

They don’t need to do a thing–the US ammo industry, by making the US gov’t & law-enforcement their priority customers, are doing their job for them.  Throw in the complicity of ammo hoarders (hoarding not for their own needs, but for speculation), & the gun-haters can just lie back & enjoy the spectacle of seeing the shooting sports crushed.

Anyway, you won’t worry about extra taxes if you check out House Bill 127.  (By the way, we’re ALREADY paying fed taxes on guns & ammo–Pittman-Robertson.)

Maybe that was top soil Bert, I’ll have to check on that. After all it did go on top of the existing burms. Still it seems a little high priced to me.

Yes Clarence, I’m aware of current taxes on firearms, left out the “more” there, sorry ’bout that. The current taxes go mostly to various conservation efforts, so I don’t mind them so much, its the “punishment” tax I dislike.

Mike

A national firearms license, priced at $800 per YEAR, is part of HR 127.  Punishment enough?  Meanwhile, because only a tiny fraction of gun owners have been willing to deduct a little from the thousands they spend on guns to support NRA, it’s now bankrupt & effectively DEAD as a political force to fight off new taxes & other restrictions.

“Cheaper than Dirt” made me laugh this morning.  They sent me an e-mail alerting me:

Hot Price on This .22 LR 500-Round Brick!

I was in need of a laugh, so I took a look:

https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/armscor-usa-.22-lr-ammunition-500-rounds-high-velocity-hp-36-grains/AMM-0551.html?utm_source=emarsys&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=PB031021-AMM-0551+Hero+-2021-03-10+15%3A00%3A00&sc_src=email_8861606&sc_lid=422903830&sc_uid=FlYZfDv8Gv&sc_llid=2200974&sc_eh=2ec49920b880effa1

They didn’t disappoint me.  So, “list price” of $239.89 and their, “low price” of $199.89!

“You Save $40.00 (17%)”

Under normal circumstances, $40 off a brick of cheap .22 rimfire would be quite the deal!

Sorry, but I just find their efforts to convince their customers of the, “savings” very amusing.

For another laugh, ask them for PROOF that $289 is the official “list price.”  Only the maker can set a “list price,” or MSRP.  If they claim any other source but the maker for their “list price,” it clearly proves they’re lying.
