Last yr I returned to CCI 7 bricks out of a case lot due to burst rims. Not many–4 or 5 out of 3 bricks, but a burst rim 6″ from your face & ears, you do NOT forget! CCI refunded the cost, but provided no explanation. (What explanation can there be but soft brass or an inferior alloy?) Later I bought another case, different lot, which I’ve just begun shooting, & have now had another 4 burst rims. Shot in 3 diff Model 52s, all checked for headspace, so can NOT be the rifles! Furthermore, in between those two cases of CCI, I bought & shot another case of Aguila SV without a single problem. The only reason I compounded my error in buying this 2nd case of CCI is because the Aguila SV is rarely in stock with Target Sports, the only dealer who ships to NYS. I’ve just notified CCI of the problem, but merely refunding my money without correcting this dangerous defect is not satisfactory.

Good to know, thanks. They all make a bad lot now and then but SV ammo should be held to a higher level of quality control. I haven’t had a burst case in a long time but I’ll never forget my first one, I used the chipped shooting glasses for a teaching aid for years! My 75’s don’t much care for CCI SV so I didn’t try it in my 52C. I wasn’t impressed by Aguila SV but will have to try it again. My rifles like Eley Club and I generally don’t shoot well enough to justify Eley Match. I’m afraid to try Tenex, my rifles might like it!

Clarence (and Mike and others). I have on hand quite a few CCI Standard Velocity that I use for my Kimber when we shoot silhouette “games” at the club. Sunday was one we call ‘thin the herd’. 16 regulation rimfire silhouettes in 4 banks of 4 at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards shot off crossed sticks. Then slightly larger silhouettes in 4 banks of 4 at 75, 100, 135 and 150 yards, off the bench. You get 10 shots each time to get the highest score with the smaller targets at longer ranges yielding the highest points. It emphasizes knowing your rifle, knowing your sight settings, and being very precise in your shooting form. Anyway, I have a range card with my scope settings and it is only applicable for CCI sv ammo. Hate to guess over the years how many bricks I’ve shot up and haven’t yet had a burst rim. In fact I’ve never had a burst rim with any .22 rimfire. I don’t WANT to have a burst rim! Currently I have several complete and one partial brick. Would it be of any use if I was to find and forward the lot numbers? I just can’t believe CCI did not investigate and remediate any issues, but then Winchester ammo did nothing several years ago with poor quality control in 12 ga shot shells, both field and target loads. I quit buying Winchester 12 ga as result. Tim

I can’t believe their indifferent response, either, & I did send the previous batch of burst cases for their inspection. In past yrs, I’ve shot a trainload, but that was before some marketing genius at CCI apparently decided market dominance could be achieved by bringing out some new LR variation every yr–just look at the complete list of LR variations they’re now producing! Obviously, NOT compatible with maintaining quality control. I’d forgotten how much I’d bought of this same lot I bought last yr–not one but TWO cases, Lot G08DA07. I’ve shot 6 bricks so far, & had 6 burst rims, so averaging 1/brick. Maybe doesn’t sound like such a big deal, but wait till it happens to you. I’m not flinching yet, but if I keep shooting this stuff, it’s inevitable.

At this point, accuracy is a secondary consideration–now, I’ll be satisfied to shoot any brand that doesn’t blow up in my face!
I’ve always had good luck with CCI, it’s my go-to for use in semi-autos that are finicky with cycling (stingers mainly)….Aguila is also really reliable for me, but I stick to the hotter loads with the higher FPS, I think they call it “super extra” of something like that. They also cycle my semi-autos and run through my Henrys like butter.
If I’m doing a lot of shooting and need bulk bang-for-the-buck, the Federal Automatch boxes of 325 are a bargain in relation to quality.

It’s 1200 fps & probably requires ear protection, meaning I can’t hear impact on steel at 150 yds. SV is about 1050 & very quiet in a 28″ brl.
Sent my complaint to CCI yesterday & still no response, can you believe?

I’m concerned that the cumulative effects of these “quiet” loads may still be harmful, I don’t know the dB rating of SV rounds in a long-barreled SS but I’ve lost too much hearing already. Must admit it’s tempting to go sans muffs with my Winder Musket but with my luck someone will set up nearby with an Eargensplittenloudenboomer and a 50 cal can full of ammo. I like my electronic muffs, they don’t cost much more than quality conventional muffs these days.

I shoot 308 out of a 26″ barrel with a loud muzzle break. Or a 45-90 from a 30″ barrel. My muffs work great and I can hear the bullet hit the steel out to 600 yds.

I would submit that the diff in the sound of impact between 40 g & 200 g bullets is not insignificant .
No concern over what others may be shooting–I shoot solo or not at all.
