Just wondering if any one is using a 28 gauge Winchester in the field this season?I have had four in the field this season, without much luck I might add.LOL Had my Winchester/Cooey Model 84,Wincheser Model 12,Winchester Model 101 and Winchester Model 23 in for hunts. So far I have been able to bag only two rabbits. One with the 28 gauge Model 12 and one with the Model 23.Rabbits (snowshoe hare)seem very scarce so far this  season and partridge(ruffed grouse) seem even worse.:(

Would like to hear from any one else using a 28 gauge Winchester and  as to what they are using and how their season is going with it.Smile

It appears no one is using a 28 gauge Winchester in the field.Too bad.

How about any one using one for clay targets,if not in the field?Smile

We use model 12, model 23, model 101 Winchester’s plus a couple 410 Lefever doubles. We have a pair of excellent four year old German Shorthair Pointers. We went to Ontario Canada grouse hunting for two weeks and bagged 29 Ruff Grouse and 15 Spruce Grouse. We also caught a bunch of Crappie and small mouth Bass. We had an awesome time. We plan on going back in 2019.

Sounds like you had a great trip to Ontario,Deluxe 76.What 28 gauge gun were you using on the trip or did you switch up ,from time to time?

Which 28 gauge Model is your Model 23,the Classic or the Golden Quail version?

My model23 is a lightweight piedgon grade golden quail. I hunted with the model 23 the first week and the model 12 the second week. A couple days I took a Ithaca and Lefever .410 double because I was wore out and they weigh under six pounds. At my age the light doubles do make a difference at the end of the day.

Nice Model 23 you have.I have a 28 gauge Model 23 Classic.Would like to add a 28 gauge Model 23 Golden Quail to the collection. Also, a 28 gauge Model 101 Quail Special to go with my Model 101 field grade gun.

The Model 23 guns are nice, but it is too bad a 5 1/2 pound version could not have been produced.Like you say,as one ages ,the light doubles do make a difference at the end of the day.:)

What are your Model 101 and Model 12 guns?My Model 101 is the field grade with the blue receiver, choked full/modified.My 28 gauge Model 12 is the field version with a full choke.

Hi 28 gauge,

My 101 is a skeet grade which I bought new in 70s. I have two model 12- 28 gauge, one is a skeet grade and the other is a full choke field grade. Years ago I shot thousand of rounds on the skeet field. Loads of fun.

Did a little skeet shooting in the past, but not a lot.More of a hunter,I guess.:)Do you do any skeet shooting now a days?

Its nice to know that there is some one out there besides myself that is using 28 gauge Winchester guns.So many of the 28 gauge Winchester guns are in collector hands and never get used. Can understand that, as the guns have gone up much in value of late years. For myself ,if I cannot afford to shoot the gun,at least once in a while or take it in on a hunt,I cannot afford to own it.:)Just my belief . Hope to run across a Winchester 28 gauge Model 101 Quail Special  and a Winchester 28 gauge Model 23 Golden Quail at some point.

Could have bought a Model 23 two barrel set(20 and 28 gauge) and a 28 gauge Model 101 Quail Special at different times in the past, but just did not have the funds to be able to do so.:(

At the risk of appearing unsophisticated in this group,I have upland hunted the Vermont woods for years with a 28 gauge Remington LT1100 Skeet. Comes to point faster than my 12 gauge 101 or my 682. Easier to carry all day also. Never had a malfunction.
