My first time hunting antelope with an open-sighted Winchester.  Took this freeloader out of my hay field this morning at 160 yards with an 1895 takedown in 30-06.

Thanks Brad.  I was planning to use an NRA musket in 30-06, but ironically I couldn’t get it to shoot a decent group.  I threw in the takedown when I went to sight in the musket and it shot very well, so it got the nod.  May have to spend a little time working up some loads for the NRA musket now.

Great job Mark, 160 yds. with open sights is very impressive. Sometimes just getting that close to a prairie goat is a challenge in itself. Of course, if you spook them, you can just wait about 5 minutes and they will probably circle back in their aimless pursuit of nothing. To be quite honest, I think I’ve ran over more antelope with my pickup than I’ve ever shot.

Thanks guys.  In the interest of full discloser, it was the second one I shot at.Embarassed

I know what you mean pdog, as I was hauling this one out of the field, I drove by the whole herd at less than 50 yards away while they stood there and watched me.  Could have poked the barrel out the window and had my pick of the herd.

In Oregon, a landowner tag is only good for a female.  It was really hard to pick out this girl with a couple of massive bucks in the herd, but at least I was able to pick out a dry doe and not orphan a youngster.
