Was wondering if anyone knew what size or type of modern primer an Older Winchester 33 brass would take ??
If you’re using original or reformed brass in .33WCF, any modern large rifle primer will work. make sure they are “large rifle” and not large pistol. There is a difference. I prefer Federal 210, but any Winchester, Remington, CCI, etc, will work as long as they are large rifle. You could also use large rifle magnum primers, but I probably wouldn’t use these in old original brass. The ones I’ve mentioned here will work with every smokeless load available for the .33WCF. Hope this will help.
Used Winchester Large Rifle Primers in my reloaded .33 Winchester rifle cartridges ,when I had a rifle in that calibre.

These are larger than Large rifle primers I’ve loaded many they are original WCF 33s these came in a box of 25 older but new stock had dimpled primers already in them but they are larger than large rifle primers
Never heard of such a thing. What brand was the ammo? I have several early boxes of both Winchester and Rem/UMC ammo plus some loose rounds. All would take a standard large rifle primer.

Are they Berdan primed?

Chickenthief has a good point. Never have used any of these.

Right!
I dug deeper and Winchester did indeed make a larger Boxer primer called the 225 which had a diameter of .225″ instead of the normal .210″.
Unfortunatly they are long obsolete and nowhere to be found.

We are not questioning who made the brass. We are only talking about 2 completely different types of primers. Boxer or Berdan. And now two diameters? Where are the dimples located? Some primers pockets are made different so they can hold the primer in tighter.
Hi. I think that what you have are Winchester’s Protected Primers, in size 5 1/2, .236 Diameter. These were made Pre-War, With double cups, Outer one with small hole for firing pin. Idea was to prevent cartridges in magazine being set off by recoil. I have only seen them in 30/30, but the bigger ones may have been used in 33WCF. Eric

There could be some collector value. If the box is in good shape I would not give them away. You should never shoot the old brass. Too much risk of problems.

It was or is brand new old stock brass it actually came primed but so much for that plan !?
Hi. I would not be surprised if you deprimed one of your cases, that you could remove old primer from outer jacket . A standard primer may
then perhaps fit in outer jacket, and be returned to case. I cant see Winchester making special size primers for so few cases. Worth a try.
I would also try to get or make fresh cases. Don’t give up, there is always a way. Eric
