Finally found the powder and a load for the RCBS FN GC sized to .322. As some of you know, Daniel at The Bull Shop in Montana has been supplying bullets for me to test in my family’s .32 Specials. Tested RL-7 around 25 grains. Tested H4895 around 28 grains. 29.8 grains of H4895 are the most accurate so far.
The plan now is to purchase a large batch from The Bull Shop, and then test loads on both sides of 29.8 in all of our rifles. It is a relief to have found a good load.
Next it will be looking for a bullet and load for either the .38-55, 25-35, 30 WCF, or the .32-40. We’ve been shooting jacketed bullets out of a couple of these and using filler sometimes with lead. Seems best to go gas-checks in all of them if we can. Those of you who would care to share gas-checked loads of RL-7 or H4895 for these calibers, I’d appreciate the help.
I read back in that other thread where you had tried the .324″ bullets; glad to read the new ones worked out better for you in your 32WS. I picked up the Lyman cast bullet book this summer and have dabbled in shooting gas-checked bullets but I still am trying to learn all about them. I had mixed results as mentioned earlier in the other thread and most of the problems were likely self-inflicted. I needed to do some handloading for a few other things and it got put on the back burner for the moment. So much handloading to do and so little time!
I have yet to fire a shot in my 32WS solid frame OB from 1908. It could be a candidate for cast also so I appreciate hearing about your experience.

RCBS FN GC has been a good bullet for me in both 32 Spcl and 32-40. Most of my guns tested have a bit better accuracy with this .322 dia. size re-sized (trued-up) with a Lee sizing die in .321 , but also a .322 Lee sizing die may kiss the sides and make for a uniform sizing of a mass produced cast product , helping your accuracy thru consistency if the size suits your rifle (easy and cheap operation in a rifle re-loading press with the Lee sizing dies ) .321 and 322 should be the best sizing’s in the majority of cases with both cartridges.I think Brad already does this step with some of his tests . Although if nicely cast ,the .322’s as you receive them may be fine. The achievable goal should be to equal accuracy obtained with the 321 dia jacketed bullets.
