Did someone redress this beauty?  http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=545738467

Is that a modern sight?  Haven’t seen one like that on a ’94.

It did look modern.  There are a few aspects of this rifle that make me wish I could see it in hand.

–The sight tang sight appears to have been recently installed–rear sight blank too.

–Why are there no turning marks on the forward area of the magazine tube?

–The photos are poor enough that I can’t clearly see the finish on the lever.

–Of the marks that do show, how could the rifle have existed 120 years without more definite wear on the (floor plate, Link)? Picture 13.

I’d guess the answer is that it was not handled much.  Or–it has had a bit of work done on it.

I don’t see any sign of refinishing.

The logo on the Marble’s tang sight, as well as the elongated tang screw hole, is from the 2000’s.  That makes the original rear sight MIA!

S/N appears to be 64651 so it is not an antique as claimed but from July of 1899. Another seller using Madis dates of manufacture. The photos are a little better if you go to their home page.

The gun looks to be in original condition from what I can see in the photos aside for the tang sight and filler blank.  I know the seller and if it were refinished he would have mentioned as he has on other auctions.

Thanks for your comments, fellows.

I’ve been out of computer range for several days, so the “Thanks” was a bit delayed.
