Looking to acquire a shooter model 70 pre 64 in a .375 H&H for collecting as well as occasional “plinking”. I see that some have been reinforced to prevent splitting, etc. I would probably be only running a dozen or less rounds though it on a yearly basis. Is stock splitting a real concern on these powerful loads????
Yes, stock splitting/cracking is a definite concern. I have seen literally dozens with stocks cracked at the tang, and many more that were cracked under the rear half of receiver as well. Personally, I would pick up a “beater” stock and shoot it that way. Why chance it?

That’s a beauty!!! Did you shoot from shoulder? Shooting bags? Or sled? Assume cracking would be more likely in a fixed position.
Some buddies and i were shooting it in the standing off shoulder position. Accurate as can be and surprisingly there was little kick. My 30-06 has more kick then the 375
