The John Hawk survey list the first 1894 rifle in 32 WS is s/n 107731 received in the warehouse 10/5/01, shipped 10/16/01. This was the first by date. The first carbine was s/n 142899 5/10/02.

 The first rifle by s/n was 10675, 8/23/02. T/R

I read somewhere that the .32 WS wasn’t a catalogue item until 1903. Is this correct?

 Mike,

It was in the Jan 1902 number 68 catalogue and then again in the June 1902 number 69 catalogue. It was not in the 1901 catalogue. T/R

Here are the first two I have in my short rifle survey. I should note that 118912 had a note in the survey stating “changed to 32 WS” so it likely was returned soon after purchase to be rechambered for the new “Special” cartridge. Maybe by Steve004’s great, great grandfather.

Thanks for the clarification.
