IMG_2473.jpegIMG_2472.jpegimage.jpgimage-1.jpgimage-2.jpgimage-3.jpgimage-4.jpgimage-5.jpgNew here! Recently stumbled into a bunch of neat old Winchester .22 rifles. One being this excellent condition 69. I cannot for the life of me figure out if this Winchester model 69 is a factory scoped rifle or not. Came with old weaver V22 scope one mount on receiver one on barrel. I do not want to butcher the gun however the reticle is broke on the current scope. The gun has 3 proof marks, one top center infront of receiver one center under where the scope mount was on reciever and one on the left side. From what I was able to tell it was made in 1937. I’m to the point of it’s a factory scoped rifle I will search for a good used replacement. If this has already been drilled and tapped once I’ll have a new style mount added to accept updated scope, rings . I never want to drill into anything and do not want to ruin the gun if it is in fact factory scoped. I have never had any of my old guns tapped for a scope. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks all!

No that is not a factory installed scope.

The hole drilled through the Winchester proof mark demonstrates conclusively that the rifle has been altered after it left the Winchester factory.

Agreed, not factory. Metal looks refinished to me also based on those proof marks. Nice rifle though for shooting!

Also, if you’re measuring barrel length, close the bolt, insert cleaning rod down the barrel until it bottoms out. Mark the rod at the crown, remove and measure. You never know with the old rifles who mucked with what.

I agree with everyone else, it has for sure been drilled and tapped outside the factory and polished, reblued also.  You have a shooter-grade rifle so you can make any changes you want to it with a clear conscious.

Absolutely worth $100!  The bolt alone is worth more than that, and of course, the 2 mags are just icing on the cake.
