I am looking at a Winchester 94 on a on line auction in Canada. The gun is stated as a Winchester 94 in 44 WCF

According to the serial number in was made in 1915. Any searching I have done tells me that Winchester never produced that gun in that caliber at that time.
Anyone with any thoughts please replay. The pictures of the gun show in as a 1894 in 44WCF with the serial number

You are correct in that Winchester never manufactured a Model 1894 chambered for the 44 WCF cartridge.  Winchester did in the 1960s manufacture Model 94 Carbines in 44-40 for the Canadian and Australian markets.  What is the serial number on the gun in question?  Can you post a link to the auction site & listing?

The carbine in the auction is a 1892 SRC. They named it wrong.

Seems to be a common problem. There is a Winchester 92 for sale in Texas that is listed as a 30-30. They show an info tag that says model 94 30-30 as proof. Rifle is definitely a 92. I argued they need to correct the ad but no change. It has not sold. Some people are just clueless.

I suspect it is a commemorative of some type. Sounds like a USRACO offering but it’s waaay past my bedtime. Also sounds like a fun rifle to burn up mass quantities of 44WCF ammo if you have the brass, powder and lead!

I believe that Winchester manufactured the Model 94 in 44-40 for the Australian and Canadian markets during the 1970s, and they were not commemoratives.

Nothing about it says commemorative so perhaps one of the guns for CA or AU that bert mentioned. I have more than enough brass, powder, and bullets and burning mass quantities of 44wcf ammo is the plan. Although nowhere near as smooth to shoot, I’ll give my 73s and 92s a break!
