Hi guys,
I typed in 32-20 in my topic, it is a 32-40.
I met a guy that has a 94 Winchester 32-40. Bore is fantastic. Looks original to me. Better than my (73) 38-40 and (73) 44-40. Has a shorter magazine tube than being full length to the Octagon barrel. I don’t have pics because we are talking trading some guns. He’s 84, and doesn’t want anything to do with it because of its obsolete bullets. The only major problem that I saw is the tang was broke off at one time and has been welded back on. Otherwise she looks real good. Nice light brown patina. If I can remember right serial no is 18,000???. Meant to write it down and forgot, I was looking at many rifles he has.
Can you give me a ballpark figure of value? I plan on reloading and shooting it. I love shooting my 73’s. I don’t believe in owning a gun if I can’t shoot it.
Sure wish I had a pic for ya. But any help here hopefully from my description, would be greatly appreciated!
thanks TerryR
With a repaired tang you don’t have any good collector value, its just a shooter. What is the condition of the finish?

If the price is good and the bore is exc. , If all else is working 32-40 is a great cal to shoot , one of my favorites. If he has a few cartridges , maybe he would let you try it. Lots of good bullet selection .Some are 32 spcl bullets. Powders I use are H4198 and 4227. I have heard of US shooters looking for brass. In Canada it is fairly easy to get, so we dont have to make cases from 32 spcl or 38-55, but if unable to find brass you can go that route. Just dont use Canadian Dominion or Imperial brass, it is poor quality. Once you are set up for loading , it is as simple as loading any Cal
The 32-40 is the best cal to shoot paper with in a 94 and a little out of the ordinary

90%+ brown patina. I also forgot there is a replacement rear sight. It is blued, so it really shows up on the brown.
And yes, I do realize for the collecting part of it, value drops. I’m just trying to figure out a value to tell this man so we can trade some guns. I don’t want to make it 800.00 when its only a 250.00 shooter. He has no idea, and I just want it to be fair for both of us. I’ve heard about the excellent shooting with these, that is why I want to get it. And I reload many-many calibers so I’m fully experienced. Annnd it a beautiful BORE!
Thanks for your help!

Beautiful rifle! That is a COLLECTOR for sure!
Thanks for the brass tip. I read somewhere you can make them with 30-30 brass? Figured I had plenty of those. I have an old be up 94 30-30 SRC. It has 7 notches for deer, 11 notches for elk. I bought it because of bore condition. I get 1-1/2 groups at 100yds. She is a tack driver. I pour my own bullets, and make em to bore size. The only difference that helps is that it has a marbles rear tang sight. That is a +++++. Thanks for the pic, and info!

One thing to check is that its not rechambered for 32 spcl as many were. If the bore is that good on an uncut octagon barrel, I would think $500 would be a great price for you , and I would be very tempted even tho I have no shortage of antique to shoot. Not that easy to come across a cheap 1894 32-40 OBR with very good bore
