OfflineHello, trying to research a model 88, serial number H283408, which supposedly was assembled in 1993 as the last of the “parts clean up” rifles, 20-years after the M88 was discontinued. Trying to research it but overall finding it a bit confusing. The one solid fact that I’ve been able to determine is that receiver number seems to have been assigned at the tail end of production, in 1973. Some source material makes vague references to parts cleanup numbers, but certainly nothing definitive. Hoping someone on here might be able to shed some light on the subject? OfflineAlex,
My references indicate that the last Model 88 serial number (in the year 1973) was 283718, or (310) after your Model 88.
I am extremely doubtful that the U.S. Repeating Arms Company (USRACo) would have assembled any Model 88 rifles after they purchased the New Haven factory from Olin (Winchester) in December of 1980. Any Model 88 parts clean-up assembly would have taken place in the immediate years after regular production was ceased in late 1973, certainly no later than early 1980.
