I just got a Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine with serial number 9xx.The only thing I can find as far as caliber is just EFF behind the rear sight, the barrel says smokeless nickel steel, this gun was made in 1894 but the 30-30 did not come out until 1895,any Info would be appreciated.

It appears that you have a non-original gun. I suggest that you verify it through the CFM records office.

Can you post pictures of it, or send them to me at [email protected] ?
The first Model 1894 SRC made in 30 WCF was serial number 4787, received in the warehouse on 6/24/1895.

Have you tried sticking a cartridge in it to see what fits? If the gun is so worn you can’t read the caliber markings, the serial number maybe worn off as well.

I took it to a gunsmith today,it is a 30 WCF,might be original barrel or maybe has been replaced,i thought it would be a 38-55 but not the case.I saw a post on here that was dated back in 2013 and they said the earliest serial number for the wcf was 846,mine is 993 so it is possible, already have ordered a letter from Cody’s.

Given your M1894 is a carbine and it is a .30 WCF, I’m wondering how you can think there is any chance it is original given the factory ledger shows the first .30 WCF made in a carbine is serial number 4787… and your .30 WCF carbine is serial number 993?
Its simple as long as you are a member which it looks like you are. On the bottom left of the reply box click “Upload Attachments” then a box opens up and you can either drag and drop pictures into it or click “Add Files” and you can brows your computer for them. Then once you have the picture in the box click “Upload”. Where ever the cursor is at is where the photos will be placed.
