I’m new to the forum and new to the model 94. Trying to figure out this rifle that was given to me. Everything I’ve looked at online is different than this one.
First the magazine tube band is under the site and closer to the tip of the barrel. Others are in a different location further down towards the receiver.
Second is the notch on top of the receiver near where barrel connects.
And third is the extra screw on the receiver.
Could anyone please help me figure this out and why I’m seeing lots of different things on this rifle compared to every other rifle I’ve seen online.
Serial number is 150013
It looks to me like someone ground that slot on top of the receiver as “a sight guide”, as for why or what reason I’m not really sure but we’ve all seen some strange things over the years. I guess the owner felt a little more comfortable shooting it, using that slot for sight alignment. IMO!

I would guess the sighting notch in the receiver is there because they used the front sight that was too short and the stock rear sight was then too tall.

Wow, thanks for the responses! I was going to restore it but now it seems to have lost its historical value in my opinion. Kinda strange how it was altered. Has anyone seen this before? Is this common to alter a 94 in this manner?
Far beyond restoration. Though there’s no end to the variety of ways a gun can be vandalized, this ’94 may be one of a kind.
