New to the group and Winchester rifles. Does anyone have information on 1873 Serial Number suffix H? Rifle was Mfgd. in 1888. Has full octagon barrel. Thanks

Winchester did not ever use a “H” serial number suffix on the Model 1873. In the year 1888, the serial number suffix was a “B”.

Thanks Bert. Did take another look and it is indeed B with a little wear. My almost 70 year old eyes are nearly as bad as my hearing. Just took to local gunsmith for good cleaning and replacement of hammer spring. Hope to shoot it in a few weeks.

Bert just perfectly demonstrated one of my favorite visual aids…a high resolution photo!
For similar items where I just can’t quite make out enough detail, I will often photograph with a higher resolution camera…I can then enlarge the photo to see the detail that the naked eye just can’t otherwise make out…very helpful!
