Hello all,

I just bought a Winchester model 94 AE in 44 Mag. from my employer (yes, it’s nice to work at a gun store with an employee discount).  The serial number is 65213xx.  Made in New Haven on the barrel, with a saddle ring, it is nearly mint. the lever is a bit woobly when closed as if you were going to shoot the rifle.  What date was this rifle made?  Its not on the dates of manufacture list because I looked.  I have a picture, but do not know how to post them.

Your Model 94AE is a late production product of the U.S. Repeating Arms Company (U.S.R.A.Co.), not “Winchester”.  The U.S.R.A.Co. leased the trademarked “Winchester” name from the Olin Corporation from early 1981 through March 2006.  Based on the partial S/N you mention, it was manufactured sometime after 2002.  Does it have a tang safety?  If so that confirms it is a post-2002 production gun.

Yes, I failed to mention the tang safety in my original post.  Although all of my Winchesters are pre-64, this is the only modern “Winchester” in my stable.  I have to say, the fit and finish is pretty good but I’m not happy about how much the lever wobbles when it is closed.  I guess QC kind of slipped during U.S.R.A.Co. production.  Certainly a different rifle compared to my pre-64 94’s or my 1892’s.

Quality control had slipped at Winchester long before U.S. Repeating Arms ,I am sorry to say.If anything, QC improved some in the U.S. Repeating years.Smile
