I guess we’ll never know what it looked like before it was restored but from what I can see the restoration was nicely done. I suspect the wood was replaced, not refinished. I don’t have a problem with someone restoring a gun that has been badly abused and has little or no collector value.

Well, let’s hope this one fell into that category…as opposed to a decent honest gun that showed its age & history; history of this one has been wiped clean.
Correct front sight would help.
If you go to Cabelas Glendale Gun Library web site and look for Winchester, you will see this gun, and the Cody letter. It was originally an Octagon barrel, then sent back to WRA and changed to round barrel. No mention of the half mag.

I agree! A beautiful and significant 1892 for sure. Perhaps not a bad price considering; for someone who doesn’t value originally a great deal.
