I saw this picture of a 38-55 muzzle on the net this morning along with other pictures of the gun for sale. I have never seen a muzzle look like this. I was thinking the barrel has been lined, but don’t think they look like this from what I’ve seen. One sees some of the weirdest things. Peter

I don’t see signs of lining from that picture. What I see is it has a good radius around the outside edge.

Sure looks like a line cut into the barrel on the outside there Bob. I just looked at 2-3 of mine and they don’t look like that. Peter

That is weird.  If it was relined, I’ve never seen it done that way before. You can definitely see a ring around the muzzle, just behind the crown.

I honestly think it is an effect of the digital camera and the glare from the lighting. The outer barrel if lined would be paper thin near the muzzle end and net to impossible to have been bored that large for the entire length of the barrel.

THIS ALL STARTED WITH JUST ONE GUN!

I believe old guns is spot on, I checked dimensions once to possibly line a 92 chambered in 38-40. (round barrel) The liner was only .030″ smaller in diameter than the barrel diameter.

The barrel muzzle to front sight distance is too short. The barrel was shortened a bit and a new crown with overly rounded muzzle face (with a tiny sharp shoulder) was added. Check the sight distance and barrel length to confirm.

I think CJS57 is correct now that I look at it. Thanks for solving the problem. Peter
