Another fake?  I know how to spot a fake spruce gun, but what about the Model 94 at the link below?  Did the ordinance markings change in this timeframe?

Don,

In my opinion, it is a fake.  I have not been able to verify any WW II U.S. Goverment (military) contracts for the Model 94 Carbine.  Additionally, the method in which it is marked does not correspond to how the other WW II era Winchesters were marked (e.g. the Model 97 and Model 12 Riot & Trench Guns).

My 2¢,

Bert

Hi,

I am glad that no one is telling the fakers what they are doing wrong.

The thing I like the most about that Fake is how the sling looks like it was made from a Cub Scout’s belt. That took some ingenuity. Laugh

I think that this looks completely fake as well.  What does Cabela’s say when you tell them it is an obvious fake?

Looking at the description of this gun, under Extras it says “Web sling, letter documents”. I wonder what this means. What letter?

I have data on another Model 94 in the 1.3 serial number range that has similar markings on it.  The difference is that the US mark is non serif and has no periods.  Like the subject gun here, I believe the markings are fake.

Here is an old photo that I have found that shows a WWI Soldier with a model 1894 Winchester. I am sure there are other photos and likely records do exist.

Brian,

Yes, there were WW I issue Model 1894 Carbines… a.k.a. Spruce Guns.  What is in question are WW II contract Model 94 carbines.
