For those of you who like interesting serial numbers, this old rifle is quite unique… it just happens to be the very last bona fide “Antique” Winchester Model 1894. S/N 53941 was the last Model 1894 through the Polishing Room on December 31st, 1898.

They use Madis or Polishing room to suit there best interests. By using Madis they get more guns to be pre-1898 and can be shipped without FFL paper needed. The ATF is known to disregard the discrepancy between the two.
Really? Are you sure?
If that was the case, then why even have the polishing records at all?

Ah that makes sense to me if I was them. Why wouldn’t they.

Well, it is against Federal law. Someday some dealer will get busted for selling a modern gun and shipping it across state lines without a proper registration. You just don’t want to be the one involved with that lawsuit.
My serial #52085 was shipped on 12/31/1898. It was serialized on 11/23.
