Every so often, a post is made about a gun that comes up for sale that is configured differently than it was when recorded in one of the surveys. It would be a very good thing to have a way for a buyer to be able to get the survey info on a particular serial number before buying….like the museum service for letterable guns. Any thought on a whether such a thing could be made available?
Its up the the individual that compiled the survey information if he wants to put it out there. Jim Gordon did it with 73’s in conjunction with his book but the 73’s are all documented in the Warehouse ledgers.

I will share the information in my surveys when asked about a specific Model and serial number. Otherwise, it would be way too cumbersome to publish a document with the thousands of serial numbers I have surveyed. My combined Model 1894/94/55/64 survey document currently contains information for more than 16,000 serial numbers. My Model 1885 survey has more than 30,000 serial numbers in it, and if I include all of the other models that I am surveying, the list would have another 8,000 or so serial numbers in it. To add to that, on any given day, I add an additional 12-20 serial numbers to the many surveys that I am working on… making them an ever moving target. Just this year alone, I have added more than 1,000 new Model 1894/94/55/64 serial numbers.

I would echo Bert’s reply regarding a specific serial number for a Model 1892 or Model 61 which I am surveying (+12,000 rifles between them). That said, please understand that if a rifle comes up in an auction and there is NOT a problem then you can assume the rifle has been seen by me and is correct. I try to “publish” problem guns when I come across them. In addition, please also realize that I am a mere mortal and with all the other things I do in my real life I may miss items. In truth I really do not want/can not reply to 50 emails a day asking me to check all the rifles listed in the many auctions out there.
