While photographing some of my 1894’s for the 1894 Sight Project, I noticed an oddity that had previously escaped me. I’ve owned this 1894 Carbine, made in 1911, for over 30 years and just now noticed this. The Winchester Proof mark on the receiver has been double-struck, yet the matching proof mark on the barrel, only one inch away, is fine.
Has anyone out there come across something like this before?

Hello,
While yours may be one of the more obvious examples I have seen it is not uncommon. I also noticed how off center the rear sight is on the barrel. The front must also be or this would be a difficult rifle to shoot accurately.
