Picked up a ‘51 1894 in 32 WS as a “gunsmith special” to restore. I’ve restored a couple others so far. This time as I was taking it apart I noticed that the screw had been installed and steaked. Anyone ever seen this before?

Only reason I can think of for staking a screw is if it has a tendency to loosen, probably not the correct screw. Staking a screw that is likely to be removed as part of normal maintenance doesn’t sound like a good idea.

The Military staked a lot of screws and even primers. But I have not seen this in commercial guns?
