As always, great video Mark. Really neat rifle as well. Will keep my eyes out for a hunting video taking a muley with it once you get it dialed in – hint, hint.

Mark,
Another great video… very nice old rifle!!
One point though. Winchester’s longest “cataloged” barrel length was 36-inches… that stated, there were (2) Single Shot rifles special ordered with a 38-inch barrel. Thus far I have not yet found either of them, but when I do, I will probably empty the bank account to acquire it!
See you in Cody,

Thanks Guys! And Bert, when you get your hands on one of those 38″ single shots, I’ll be expecting you to bring it down so we can document your first shots through it. What an episode that would make! Mark
I will do that (if I can still afford the fuel to get there)
1. S/N 875, Plain Sporting Rifle, 38 WCF 38-inch No. 1 octagon barrel, Single Set trigger
2. S/N 71747, Plain Sporting Rifle, 40-82 WCF, 38-inch No. 3 octagon barrel
The attached picture is a scanned copy of the ledger record page showing S/N 875. Note that S/N 876 is also a special order extra long barrel 34-inch 32 WCF.

Good job with the 1895 and a favorite Marty Robbins tune! We know many collectors don’t shoot their guns but I learned early on that many of these old Winchester shoot! They were made to shoot and I’ll venture to say at least a few in my little collection have fired more rounds than I have.
Reminds me of a certain local Texas Deputy who was assigned by the sheriff to guard a high-profile prisoner during trial. First day he wore a fancy Colt SAA because he knew the press would be there. Defendant was a flight risk. Word got back to this deputy through a jailhouse snitch that he wasn’t going to try anything because the deputy had that big Colt that would “reach way out there” . Of course the deputy was obliged to continue to carry his “big iron” for the duration of the trial.
Happy Trails and safe travels to those of you headed for Cody, looking forward to seeing you soon!
