Fancy wood and vivid case color are a wonderful combination.

Can’t recall seeing this one before, pretty sure I’d remember it. Case colors pretty much spectacular. Wood is very unique but suspect it may not quite be XX. I’m surprised he’s selling this one out of his collection, whatever he’s making room for must be pretty spectacular. Good eye, Steve!

Yes, some one had brought this rifle forward here recently. Don’t remember who. Nice looking rifle for sure, but I,,,,,I dont like the stock. I would certainly want a stock pull and number check on it. It appears to have been sanded as the pictures show proud metal around the tang. Butt plate not so much. I have 86’s that do letter with x and xx wood, I think that the later the version the less that was put into the ledgers as there was to much going on in the factory. The case colors are quite nice, but not sure i would call it “showing all it’s original case colors, But that’s just my simple opinion. Not that it’s worth a tinkers damn. But over all a fine looking 1886 in a desirable caliber with a nice ladder rear sight. It will be interesting to see the final price on it.

Steve my question is why wouldn’t the seller use RIA where the prices realized are astronomically inflated. I would never buy but selling, a different story!
Both this seller as well as Austinsguns usually are able to command very high prices on gunbroker. They typically have very nice pieces. They both have a large and loyal following who are willing to dig deep in their pockets. It’s a combination of having very nice stuff and a long track record of honest dealing – somewhat of a rarity on internet auction sale sights (and the big auction houses too). I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from either of these sellers. Both these guys really know Winchesters too. I can’t say the same about the guys writing the RIA descriptions, or the majority of gunbroker sellers.

If you use RIA to sell a gun the fees can total 40% of the price the buyer pays. You can cut out the overhead and pass the savings.
In this case the seller has a good reputation for finding nice guns and being honest. I have bought, sold, and traded with him for several years. I am a satisfied customer. T/R

I didn’t realize there could be 40% added so yes that makes sense T/R. And I agree, his guns are very nice. Sounds like he’s a very reputable seller.
If a beginning collector wants to get started and stay clear of the pitfalls out there, a simple way to get started and not get burned is to buy from Chayns or Austinsguns. Plus, not buyer’s premium or fee.
looks like a standard sporting rifle to me. not sure where the “semi deluxe” is coming from. if it were a “deluxe” non checkered 1886 it would say fancy stock in factory letter. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is nothing on the left lower tang. The stock has been off and inspected by someone 100% as the original oil, crud and grim has been disturbed on upper tang where wood meets. still with that said it would look nice along side all my others in same and better condition.
