I need do do this on a really nice 62A pump I have. Has a chuck missing right at the top.
How do you match the colour Bob, would graphite powder work?

Following my post above, the butt plate on my 62A is sanded with the stock for final finish from the factory so it fits perfectly so a reproduction would not fit very well.
If your rifle was factory fit only the original one will fit. If the replacemnt is bigger you can sand the buttplate to fit. Then polish the edges where sanded. DO NOT try to do the sanding with the buttplate on the rifle. There may be someone that can repair the one you have.

Call Don he will tell you if he can fix it. I’ve know him for many years and you’d be amazed.

Yep, thats what I said in my post Chuck. You can see the factory finsihing marks on the sides of the butt plate matching the wood, hence it staying on there.
I never sand the wood on any of my Winchesters. Thanks for the link, I’ll have a read! 🙂

Chris, I have never done it so I’m not sure if they even use epoxy but I know it is done. Epoxy might polish up too shinny and not blend in. Here is a link to a post about Don’s repairing a Winchester butt plate. From reading it, you should make a template of the wood so he knows the right shape to make the replacement parts. But for you Chris, shipping would be the issue.
