I know for a fact that many do!
I refuse to join that category so I’ve been organizing and cataloging, and condensing down, for awhile now. Not saying that I haven’t added any, as I have, but getting a plan together is paramount for families. IMO!

Nice rifles of course and I enjoyed seeing them. I also enjoyed the close-up photos of the serial number stampings. Examples like yours help us figure out what may have been done (e.g. refinishing) to other rifles we see.

This is something I’ve mulled over for years. It would be nice if the answer was, “she will just enjoy them all as much as I did.” Sadly, for most of us, that’s not in the cards.

Literally reading a book right now called “Who gets your stuff when you die?” by a local estate attorney here in North Texas – You might construe it’s about estate planning and trusts vs. wills and the pros/cons of each. If you have the time and means, I highly recommend you set it all up now…at the very least leave instructions as to how to handle your assets, both physical (guns) and financial.

Who put you up to this?
After being executor of an estate or two you’d THINK someone would do the responsible thing. Both went well due to previous conversations, thoughtful wills and cooperative siblings. I’ve been on the fringes of two other estates that went badly and ended decades-long friendships. Quite honestly I don’t think anyone wants my stuff. Instructions or suggestions for liquidating assets will in some cases be as helpful as a comprehensive will.

I’ll probably leave instructions for my wife, two girls and grandkids to each pick a favorite, and the rest will probably go to auction, but that’s not an arena that I’m familiar with at all, and would have no idea which one to trust. Most of my guns have just been bought directly from people in my area. In my lifetime I’ve only purchased one rifle online, and I could count on one hand the number that I’ve purchased at shows. I travel rural areas of Northern Michigan for my work, and many of my clients are older with generational family farms and orchards. Guns have a way of falling out of their closets…😂😂😂. I’m only 59, and I’m also concerned that in 10 or 20 years there’ll be way less collector interest in dark walnut and blued steel.
Lets face it, when you take a good look around the bigger shows it’s mostly gray hair 😉

I agree with you George! I’m afraid we are the last generation who may really appreciate the lever actions at least to the extent we do. We grew up watching the westerns, John Wayne and Chuck Connors and sadly I got young people in my office who don’t even know who John Wayne is! Much less Chuck Connors 😢
The high end ones likely keep their value but not sure the rest doesn’t lose value if the buyer pool shrinks! Just my opinion though.

How about this for a spin?
I’ve been hearing this now for awhile, and can agree with it mostly. In fact for many years this has been said now, and with all the truth to it, we are seeing some younger historical interest in the hobby, to possibly and maybe keep it going.
We here at WACA, sure try to keep it going!

Looking around collector shows is like a good news/bad news joke for me. At 66, I’m often younger than a sizeable percentage of the folks there and that was certainly the case 11 years ago. I think we’re losing old folks faster than we’re gaining young folks but some clubs, e.g. WACA, seem to be holding steady. It’s hard to say if that’s the case with the collecting community at large but the outlook seems as gray as our demographics.
