Hello,

this musket is one of the many despatched to France for the Franco-Prussian war.

Can you please confirm the rear sight is correct to the gun.

I also have two questions on the markings:
What does the B after the serial stand for?

What is the signification of the arrow like stamp ?

Many thanks in advance.

The sight is typically seen on Henrys. I would look for wear marks on the barrel where it touches to see if its been on the gun a long time.

The B is a inspector stamp.

The arrow might just be a typical mark from the gun getting bumped.

Like Bob said.  This is the last version of the Henry sight.  It can be found on the last Henry’s and was the standard on the 66 rifles.  The major change was the shape of the elevator.

Thank you very much for your insight.

From what Bob says, as long as I can’t find another “arrow mark” on another example, this might just be a “bruise”.
