My uncle left me his 1892 takedown model, serial number 7102xx, caliber 32wcf. The bluing is almost 100% still in place and the rifle is in very good condition! however at some point evidently my uncle decided to have a Lyman peep site installed and removed the original rear site. Although I do not intend to sell this rifle, it will join my extensive collection of rifles and handguns, but I would like suggestions on if I should remove the Lyman peep site and replace the original rear site ( the original mount is still in place )
also if anyone could give me any more info on this rifle such as year it was manufactured, I would appreciate it very much.
thanks for any suggestions and or info.

Earl,
Sounds like a nice rifle. Your rifle was made in 1913. Does your rifle have an octagon barrel, crescent buttstock, and full magazine? Im collecting information on 1892 takedown rifles, would like to add yours to my survey (full SN would be nice). Is the Lyman a tang sight or receiver mounted sight–to be clear? If its a tang sight I would probably leave it as it is.

Yes it is an octagon barrel, with crescent buttstock with full magazine, and the rear sight is a Lyman tang sight. The full serial number is 710216. The dovetail still has the sight mount in it. The rifle shoots beautiful, the only problem being failing to chamber cartridges sometimes which I understand was a common problem.
thanks for your help
