Hello all, I just picked up a 94 carbine in 32WS, barrel is dated ‘38. It has original finish that has typical wear/greying  of a 80yr old northeast hunting rifle, the internals are excellent with a beautiful bore!  It has a Lyman 56 sight and marbles dovetail blank. My question is….Would this have been a factory installed sight? Possible special order?

It could have been a special order, but the odds are greater that it was installed after the fact. The fist thing I would do is temporarily remove the sight and check the condition bluing underneath the sight. I would also inspect the drilled & tapped mounting holes. Winchester did all of their machining before bluing. The holes should be very cleanly machined and have bluing in the threads.

Thank you, I removed the sight, the bluing on the receiver under the sight base is 100%, although only 1 screw hole appears it could possibly be blued. I would guess this sight was most likely addded on very early in its life.

It is possible that it was factory installed. Do the threads begin at the very outer edge of the holes, or are they slightly recessed? If they are slightly recessed, odds are that Winchester did the work. If you can, post a clear close-up picture of the drilled & tapped mounting holes.
