How much does a factory rechamber from 300H&H to 300wm affect the value of this rifle? Also has what appears to be 5 scope mount holes tapped W/filler screws in the left side of the receiver.  Also possibly refinished? Thanks for opinions- Mike

Hugely–zero collector value left.  Louis will no doubt provide specifics, but if you haven’t already bought it, don’t.

Mike-

While I did not see a link to the subject rifle in your post, Clarence is 100% correct. Nothing you described holds any collector value…Cry

At best, it would be worth the sum of any unmolested parts it may still possess.  Rechambered barrel = ruined.  Side mount holes in receiver = ruined.  Probably has a non-factory recoil pad on its refinished stock = ruined.  The floor plate, if original SG with good blue and NOT refinished would be worth a few hundred dollars, as would a Redfield 254/255 full gold bead front sight if not beat on with a steel punch… Cry

Better to wait and find a good one… Smile

thats what I figured- recoil pad (red looks factory) work done was quality has the sight pictured at the top- a two blade rear on the barrel and the front gold bead is unmolested.  Taking the sellers word its reblued and you can’t tell in the pics (naturally they look great) I haven’t bought it I was looking at it for a shooter 1958 Production sn#427155  bout $900.  I appreciate the advise (I collect mostly turn of the century 1894″s) Im not educated on the 70’s

I guess if I were to buy one with no collector value Ill look for a 300wm that has most of the finish worn off from being carried afield for most of a man or twos life but still cared for.. for some reason I love those guns
