pre64bolt.jpgImage EnlargerI have a model 70 30/06 with serial number date to 1946. I was disassembling the bolt for cleaning and the safety lever flew out and I lost the detent & spring. Where can I find these parts please?

I’ve successfully found Pre-64 Model 70 parts on Ebay, but you have to be patient.  These guys may also have the parts you need:  https://pre64win.com/

You can also try:  https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/winchester/rifles-win/70-pre-64-series/70-pre-64

Ouch!!!  Surprised How did you manage that Terrence???

After about S/N 14,000 (1938) the safety was held in the bolt sleeve by a safety retaining pin (that goes in the little round hole on the flat left side of the bolt sleeve).  To get the safety out you needed to first remove the firing pin/striker from the inside the bolt and then drive that pin from the outside into the center of the bolt sleeve (which can only be accomplished with the firing pin removed).

Unless you did a lot more disassembly/reassembly than you show in the photo, I’m guessing that at some time in the past that pin was removed and not replaced??? Confused Otherwise the safety can’t be wriggled out (releasing that pesky plunger and spring to go flying)… Wink

The good news is that putting it back together (including replacing the retaining pin) is done from the outside (the pin isn’t tapered and can only be put in from outside).

Anyway, I’d talk to pre64win.com first.  They should have (or be able to round up) what you need:

Good Luck!!!
