A few months back I bought a pre war model 70, in 250-3000 Savage. Someone put on a pachmayr flip mount for a 7/8″ tube. Gun came with a lyman alaskan. The only way I could figure out how to get the scope off the mount was to unscrew the ocular lens.
I sent scope in to get refurbished with a new reticle and the guy completely destroyed it…still very pissed about that.
So now I need a new scope. Anyone familiar with those old pachmayr flip mounts? Is removal of the ocular lens the only way to get the scope on? If so, I think I might be limited to another similar vintage Lyman scope with the 7/8″ tube.
My preference would be the Leupold Alaskan they briefly manufactured in 80s or 90s with a 7/8″ tube. But I don’t believe the ocular lens is removable on that scope.
