Gotta ask, Steven. Have you gotten a chance to shoot it yet?

Anybody know where I can get an aperture for the 48W? I bought one online new, thread stated 7/32 x 40, but it dosent fit any of my Lyman sights, I think the thread is burred or whatever, IDK. I can use the sights without an aperture but wanted to try one out. The one I bought was a Lyman 3060960 said 1/2 x .093. THX

Steve, That seems to be the way Lyman assumed the sight would be used for hunting. The 1930 Lyman description for the 48W says “specify disk if desired,” implying it was not at that time standard. I’ve found most of Lyman’s disks from that period to be unusable without drilling out the ap to at least twice its original size. I think the premise was, the ap could be made larger, but not smaller. It’s curious the original 48 for ’03s included the turndown (but no disk), but not those made for the 54. If you’re willing to pay the cost of a Merit adjustable disk, you could transfer it to whichever rifle you’re shooting.
