ATTN — Fellow Collectors:::: Looks to be a legitimate 44 WCF Trapper serial 365xxx 16 inch barrel. May become available soon.
Just have these pictures for now—
Will have opportunity to physically inspect it before I commit.
Haven’t had much exposure to the Trapper models.
Chime in with any thoughts/input. Thanks PH

OfflineWhat is the full SN? of the rifle? The forend wood looks like a standard length which would NOT be correct for a 16 inch carbine. Is the muzzle face cut flat or is it crowned? Is the barrel band positioned across the barrel address stamp?

OfflineThanks for the input.
All good questions but these pictures are all I have today—early in the process I am just trying to establish a ball park on the rarity and demand. If it’s worth the time and effort to travel 300 miles for an honest “hands on” look.
For a little “context”::
Am somewhat familiar (not a total Newbie)—already have full sets (all calibers) of the standard 1894 and 1892 SRCs with several duplicates including a 94/95 Hybrid—just haven’t seen many trappers. The seller is an honest 80+ year old collector just thinning out his sizeable herd. I have done some “Colt SAA” business with him previously and been very pleased with his “38 WCF”. He’s not a “shyster”.
Trying to tap into your expertise at “The Forum”. Thanks again.
Hope I’m not wasting your time PH

Not a waste of time at all. I would definitely ask for some further photos before the drive. Get one of the top of the barrel, the full serial number, and one of the forend wood with a measuring tape next to it.

OfflineHere are some images of an original 16 inch carbine with SN 380394. You can compare the relative length of the forend wood, position of the barrel address and the front sight position. Based on the OP’s original 4 images I am thinking that the rifle is not original and that the barrel and magazine have been cut down.

Writing should not be on top in front of sight should be on side with writing end at the rear sight dove and front sight looks back more then an inch from end of barrel .
Your written assertion is not correct. The rolled stamped Winchester address marking is in the correct position on the top of the barrel for the Carbine in question.

Bert not on top of barrel in front of sight on a 16 or shorter gun should be a head of barrel band like the one Tobit posted if if it on top and has short wood band would be through wrighting.
Again, I disagree. The factory barrel roll marking for that serial number should be on the top (12 o’clock position) of the barrel… not on the side of the barrel as you stated.
