Hi, gang!
I recently acquired a 1960-vintage (s/n 470xxx) M70 Featherweight in .270. Everything on it is correct except that the Winchester trademark is missing on the left side of the receiver. The metal has not been polished or refinished, the proof marks are crisp and in the usual left side position on the receiver and barrel, the bolt is properly S/N’d to the receiver and the barrel markings are appropriate. There’s just no hint of ‘WINCHESTER’ stamped on the receiver’s left side. It looks like what you’d see on a Sears M53, just a blank space. Those were all post-64 push-feeds so my receiver could not have been a mix up from that era. Might this be just a rare factory QA flub? Has anyone else seen or heard of this?
