I put this in lay away back in December of last year and recently paid it off and picked it up today, cause I got a few other Winchester’s I am paying on as well besides this one.  Got a Model 75 Sporter from 1942, and a Model 69 in lay-away with another dealer as well lol.  Wifey has her dresses, shoes and purses, so a fella has to do what he has to do!

This is absolutely an unmolested All Original Model 88 in .308 caliber.  It may have had a few rounds, if that, put through her literally.  Fella that had it, a dealer in PA.  Glad I was able to strike a deal with him, He said it was as clean as he had ever seen one and he wasn’t just saying it either.  I am beyond happy!

Anyways, I am amazed at how clean this 88 is!  It is spotless, basically a brand new rifle.  No wear in bluing, the action and the bolt, bolt face has no wear hardly at all, tight action, just a few handling marks here or there on furniture, checkering is clean and crisp.

I know most are into older lever actions, I like them as well don’t get me wrong, but these Pre-64 Model 88’s are my favorite.  I am drawn to the 50’s era mostly, but I love them all.  The addiction is strong!  Bad thing IS I like ammo boxes, advertising posters, magazine ads and such as well.  I might need an intervention in the near future Wink

Serial Number 40271, which makes it an early 1957 Model 88.

Furniture and bluing is stellar!  The checkering is crisp and no wear whatsoever.

Lever Action shoes hardly any wear at all.

Magazine well no wear.  Magazine although not pictured here looks as if it has never had a round loaded into it even!

Barrel Crown doesn’t even show signs of being fired!

Original butt plate isn’t even blemished!

That’s a fantastic looking 88, pretty much brand new. I have one from 1961 in 243 that my father bought new. I need to take a deer with it someday in his memory…. just one more thing on my bucket list.

Thanks Pdog!  I almost bought a pristine 243 few months back.  It was a toss up between it and this 88 I bought.

And for the record I took the unblemished sling swivels out as I don’t want them to scar the stock.  I never use a sling anyway, unless hunting, and this one won’t be doing that.
