Hello all, I recently inherited a model 1894 30wcf. From the looks of it it appears to be a 1910 rifle, serial number 580893. It has 2 screws that appear to not be factory. Blueing on barrel looks great, receiver looks good but more wear, stock and butt plate have minor wear.
long story short, I don’t much of the history of this rifle, other then it’s been a safe queen for the last 50 years. It was my great grandfathers gun and when he passed away it went straight into my grandfather’s safe.
looking for any info on this gun and what is recommended to get it back into firing order. (I imagine a good cleaning and check head space)
also is 30wcf exactly the same as 30-30, is it safe to shoot 30-30 out of this gun if everything checks out from a gun smith?
I have a ton of photos just don’t know how to post them on this forum from my phone.
Hello Derek,
Model 1894 serial number 580893 was manufactured in September, 1912. “30 W.C.F.” is the original designation for the 30-30 Winchester cartridge. As long as the rifle is in safe working condition, you can shoot any modern factory original manufactured ammo in it.
