I have a Winchester Model 1894 in 30wcf from 1905. Serial number is 585748. My question is regarding the magazine tube and a dovetail mount on the underside just in front of forend wood. Also the magazine tube has a brass cap that at first look does not seem readily removable. I’d like to know if this is a standard configuration.
I have looked online but have not found any photos of a similar mount.
Thanks for any help and knowledge.

Tom,
First, the serial number you posted is an October 1912 production Model 1894 versus 1905.
The pictures you posted show a highly modified (non-factory original) gun. It would help to see pictures showing the entire gun. What I can tell you at this point, is that the front sight is not original, the magazine tube is shorter than it should be, and the dovetailed piece attached to the bottom of the magazine tube does not belong there.

Tom,
There is very little that is still original. I will assume that it was originally a standard Saddle Ring Carbine when it was assembled by Winchester, but has suffered what I refer to as the “Bubba” school of gunsmithing.

Bert,
That is my take on it. I think I will smooth the rough spots and shoot it.
It looks like the barrel is not even original to the receiver, but the rifling is good with slight erosion.
Interested on what the value is on this rifle. I think I purchased it for a good price at $150 so I don’t have any regrets.
