Hi John,
Welcome to the forum. I’m a fairly new member as well. Lots of great folks here and a great source of info. Anyway, I saw Bert at a show here in Portland, OR this last weekend and he mentioned that he is writing an article on the Model 71 that will be published (I believe) in the Fall 2013 Winchester Collector magazine. If you are now a member of WACA you should be getting a copy of it in the mail in the next month or so. Great magazine with lots of interesting articles.

Welcome John. Those Model 71s are a really nice rifle aren’t they? A Model 71 is somewhere on my list, along with another 1895, 1894, 1886….

Hi John,
Welcome aboard! Good bunch of fellows here, hope you learn something and have some fun.
On the 71, I echo your sentiments. Though a Model 1894 (94) collector, I own a early long tang Deluxe 71. It is one of the smoothest guns I have ever cycled, and one of my favorites. I carry it each Fall moose hunting. I am still hoping to be able to one day get some pics of that old 348 doing its work and post them on here post successful hunt!
Again, welcome.
Matt
