At the cost of repeating myself I’m asking this forum once again for any response to my inquiry on an English Proofed 1876 Winchester rifle. I own one of these rifles in 40-60WCF. It was manufactured in 1883-4, shipped to England, and then to India. The barrel length is 22" with a short forearm. I know that many of the firearms that were sent to England and eventually onward to either Africa or India were of a larger caliber (50 Express being more common for these exported Winchesters) I’ve never seen nor heard of one in the smaller 40-60WCF before. A very unique part of this rifle is the front sight. It’s in a 1882-3 Winchester Catalog under the heading of "1876 Reversible Sight". Turn the dovetailed sight 90 degrees one way and you have a type of globe sight with center post. Turn it 90 degrees the other way and it becomes a sort of a tubular, elongated "Rabbit Ears with a center post". Quite interesting isn’t it? There are two rear sights. A type of Vernier Mid-Range adjustable sight and a 4 leaf express sight with no markings that I can find. Both seem to match the age of the rifle. This rifle, I told my wife the following "Upon my demise, Sell everything, but keep the Winchester". Ha,ha,ha. Sound familiar? Any info on these "Small Bore" English Proofed rifles would be most helpful to me. Thank you, Apache 😕
