Henry –
I got excited when I first spotted that 36 inch .32-40 (by the way, it’s not Bob’s rifle). Anyway, they mention the barrel has been stretched and spliced. Interestingly, included in the lot is a four page letter from George Madis proclaiming the rifle to be, “all original as made by Winchester” and, “merits a prominent place in any collection or museum.”

I’d be interested in seeing the “Madis” letter. To see how it was actually worded and if it is indeed an original Maids letter. I find it odd that the auction company would make such statements in the item’s description and not show the letter as well. If it was an RIA auction they would have.
