I have an opportunity to buy a Model 94 in 30-30 caliber. The serial number is 1753950 which I believe dates the rifle to about 1950. I’ve inspected it a couple of times and it appears to be in exceptionally nice shape; it belongs to a retired policeman who got it from his father. No question in my mind it is all original. Blueing is even, with little wear, no nicks or dings on the metal or wood. There is no box or paperwork. I plan to use it to hunt whitetails but beyond that, I’ll shoot it sparingly.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen a 94 in such good condition.

I know there were millions made.  I ‘d appreciate any thoughts on what the current market value is on the 94. The seller is in no hurry to sell and he has been reasonable in the past—I bought several Colt handguns from him last year. This is the only Winchester he has.

Check past and/or current auctions on GunBroker to compare sales price versus condition, etc. of 94’s currently or recently in the marketplace.

Model 94 serial number 1753950 was more than likely manufactured in 1951, and with the short style forend stock. If it is in 95% condition, it could easily be worth $1K.

Thanks Bert!  I appreciate the year of mfg. clarification.  The rifle is at least 95%  and I believe I can buy it for less than $1,000; we’ll see.

Good luck on your purchase, I think it will make a fine investment/hunting rifle. I have a few 94’s of that era; I like the deep blue finish and the D&T’d holes in the receiver to accommodate receiver sights. Wood is generally attractive as well.
