Am I missing something here? Or just an all-out bidding war? I realize the high condition, but seems like crazy money for a plain-Jane 94…with still 7+ days left to go on the auction.

Agree. Have you ever looked at the “Invaluable” online auction site. https://www.invaluable.com/ I am new in my hunt for old guns but got lucky on this site. Even with the high house fees, I think it is easier to find a better deal. There may be others.

Yea, I was following that one. The seller won’t honor my 03FFL in CA so I took it off of my watch list. Guess I’m not missing anything.
He also has a scoped M57. I was interested in that one even more, but not worth dealing with difficult sellers.

Once again an, “all out bidding war” with one of the bidders only having one piece of feedback. It suggests a shill bidder is running it up. I can’t say that with certainly but we know this is now widespread on internet auctions.
Looking at the bid history, that bidder with the “1” feedback rating won the below horrible looking Model 94. A shill bidder than won by accident or a very novice collector…

Don,
Invaluable and Proxybid represent many of the auctions online discussed here on the forum: James Julia, Rock Island, etc. For those of us that don’t travel much, it’s fun to follow along but you’re right, the premiums can sometimes turn a good deal upside down. Occasionally I get lucky too.
Invaluable has a great mobile app as well that makes bidding from my office, where anything remotely resembling a gun is blocked online (including this forum – thanks Comcast/NBCU – for keeping us safe), relatively easy.

I agree that it more than likely is not factory original finish. The telltale sign is the proof mark stamps on the frame ring and barrel. As we all know, Winchester struck them after the receiver and barrel had been blued. I see absolutely No discoloration in the bluing surrounding the proof mark stamps, which strongly indicates that the gun was been reblued.

Another case of a seller that has a lot of nice original guns for sale, but my first impression was that the blue is too nice considering the wood and the very dull blue on the buttplate that probably should look similar to the picture shown below. Having said that, plus what has already been mentioned…well…

Interestingly it is the same bidder in both cases.

The same seller has this model 57 as well (I know its a rim fire, so wrong forum). Curios as to claim that both scope and peep sight are both “factory”. Assume special order but why both?
