Looking for some help.  An old friend of mine gave me a bucket of parts of a Winchester model 88.  I refinished the stock and cleaned everything up.  Looks to be only missing the recoil block.  I’ve scoured the net looking.  Anyone know where I can find one?

Thanks in advance

Marshall

What year is the gun you’re working on?

The early model 88 use a “cloverleaf” recoil block, the later 88 and 100 use the radius style block.  I checked Murray’s book and he indicated the recoil block was changed prior to 1957 ( below serial 80,000 +/-).

It’s not the cloverleaf, it’s the radius.

My understanding was the blocks were interchangable between the 100s and the later 88s, but have never  confirmed this.

The parts are close but the model 100 needs some machining done to it.  I’m hoping to find an 88 recoil block.

Not even close to the same internally. Very interesting-a large amount of modification needed to make a 100 blocfit an 88.

Thank you for the information.

This was an amazing resource for the M88’s and M100’s.  I learned a great deal going through it.

Assuming you’ve tried all the major go-tos for older gun parts like homestead, etc.? If not, I can post a list of bookmarks I have.

Good luck.  If you haven’t found one in 2 years, I think I’d consider finding some one to modify a model 100.  The model 100 block seems to be readily available

I have been searching for an 88 cloverleaf tang block for some years now. Pretty sure Winchester only made those for a year or 2 early on.
